Ecotrek Expeditions is a company specialized in cultural and ecological trips to the many parks and native communities of Ecuador and South America. We have special expeditions to the Amazon basin, Galapagos and the Andean highlands. We respect and are highly aware of our region’s ancient cultural tradition and the importance of preserving our delicate and fragile environment.
We strongly believe in the necessity of alternative tours such as ours. The richness of our region is hidden in the environmental wisdom of remote indigenous communities and in the natural beauty of our diverse wilderness. In order to visit those areas, one should respect the ability to admire what is beyond set standards. Ecotrek invites you to see Ecuador and the various regions of South America in a different way.
“A journey through Ecuador is comparable to a trip from the Equator to the South Pole”
We have 3300 species of orchids, 350 species of reptiles, 450 species of amphibians and more than 20,000 vascular plants. We have 1,500 species of birds - more than twice that of North America. In general we have about 10% of all existing species of animals and plants in the world, in an area the size of Great Britain. The people of Ecuador offer more evidence of our country’s great diversity. Ecuador is a multiracial, multi-cultural and multi-linguistic country. Also, continental Ecuador has over thirty volcanoes, eight of which are still active. Our land extends from the Amazonian Tropical Rain Forest, the richest natural environment in the world, to Chimborazo (which at 6,310m. is the farthest distance from the center of the earth), to the fertile, and appealing Pacific coast. And finally, who can forget the uniqueness and beauty of the Galapagos Islands? We may not be a big country, but in relation to the area that our country covers, Ecuador has one of the most diverse environments in the planet.
